Earthlings (2005)

Author: Old Mother Hubbard

“Earthlings” (2005) is far and away the most horrific, unflinching and upsetting documentary I have ever seen. It laser focuses on how mankind treats animals on a daily basis. It is told in 5 parts:

1. Pets
2. Food
3. Clothes
4. Entertainment
5. Science

As an animal lover this is a tough film to get through but it is certainly an eye opener for anyone that turns a blind eye to what is really going on. There are literally millions of animals killed world wide everyday for food, clothing, entertainment and science. What is most disturbing is the cruelty inflicted on the animals before they are slaughtered. The guy at the pig farm beating on the pigs was a fucking sadist. The elephant trainer was a major asshole that needs to be beaten with the 2 by 4 he uses to “train” the elephants. My favorite part is when the elephant retaliates and fucks up several circus shit heads. As the elephant is charging down the street with cops firing hundreds of bullets in to him you can hear a woman scream “You fucking assholes!”

All 5 segments are fucking brutal but the 3rd part about the clothing and the leather that comes from India is really harsh and hard to watch. The 5th part “Science” is ruthless as well. The film also covers sea animals and discusses how pollution in our oceans is causing a myriad of health issues including cancers, diabetes and strokes. There is a scene that shows the waste from the pig farms going straight in to the ocean, and we are talking about a lot of pig shit and piss. Kosher laws say that animals must be killed in a humane way under sanitary conditions and they should not be carved up before all the blood has been drained. The cows in the Kosher area are drop right on to the filthy floor that is covered in blood, so don’t believe that Kosher bullshit. Honestly, with about 20 minutes left in the film, I was wishing for it to be over.

I really think that everyone should see this documentary. I was unaware of the extreme cruelty inflicted on the animals and the horrific ways they are forced to live before their deaths. Nazism, racism, sexism and speciesism are discussed in a way that acknowledges the depravity and heartlessness of mankind when it comes to animals or even mankind itself.

I’ve got to give it 5 stars because of it’s sheer unwavering right-in-your-fucking-face look at the brutality and cruelty that happens to your dinner and clothing. A very upsetting film. There is a strong possibility that I will become a vegetarian.
