like ive watched canadian horror, british horror, croatian horror, usamerican horror, spanish horror etc you get my point.
Whenever I watch a Japanese film its like my stomach is being sucked out through my vagina w the shit theyre doing.
Its stuff i watch that I know i wont really be able to find anywhere else.
Im not saying asian horror is better per se, but its defo on another level and im confused as to why?

If you go back to the war many of the film makers witnessed horrific stuff at home and abroad. Tokyo for example was blanket firebomed so walking through the streets after that would have been like one big funeral pyre. That soaked into the culture of Manga so kids from an early age see violence as entertainment and they grew up to make films.
There is also the cultural difference that Japanese can seperate themselves. If they put on a uniform they become that uniform as such when they make horror films they go full-on horror.
There is of course the fact that there are millions of them all craving different forms of entertainment and in a country that is totally into making as much money as possible all things are on the table. If you are going to make a horror film you have to fight all the horror film makers for the audience money.
…just thoughts because in reality who fucking knows.
Because they really didn’t have many limits back then. And honestly part of it was probably a weird reaction to Japan’s censorship laws too. Country’ll let somebody’s eyes get gouged out in graphic detail but suddenly everybody panics if a pussy or dick shows up for half a second. Japan really set the bar for a lotta that stuff and then other countries around the region started pushin boundaries in their own ways afterward.
