Does anyone else find that horror movies are starting to have little to no effect on them? Sinister was supposed to be “scientifically proven to be the scariest horror movie” but it didnt really do anything to me, i jumped at one jumpscare and that was it. I suspect it’s because people exaggerate how scary and fucked up some movies are, with salo or 120 days of sodom i was just like “oh my god that’s fucked up” for some parts of the movie but i forgot about it the next day, i have nothing to say about cannibal holocaust because i couldnt find it with atleast ok quality anywhere. Was there a movie that was able to envoke some emotions in you if you also feel like this?
desensitization has become a problem for me as well. 120 days is a good example. I first watched it because of a dear friend’s recommendation. at that time i was kinda young and it freaked me out. ;). When i saw it again two years later, i was pleased to note that i had at first completely missed the comedy; but, the people i saw it with definitely did not find it funny…..and that was when i had to accept i’ve seen too much. (Doesn’t anyone else think 120 days is more comedic than disturbing?)
although i have not been able to find anything that envokes the ticklish dread i felt as a child whenever i’d chance upon the pallid complexion of edward Scissorhands in my parents’ dvd “collection”, practically every Japanese flick on this website is deeply enjoyable. (contrary to the amusing hate posts that have been appearing on here, (“amusing” inasmuch as they are DUMB), western movies will never hold a candle to Japanese cinema//”scientifically proven to be scariest” my ass.) Have a look at Guinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh and Blood and Red Room. Visitor Q has a perturbingly bizarre ambience but if rigor mortis strangling your cock doesn’t do it for you, check the more…shallwesay…niche…titles such as Tumbling Doll of Flesh, I guess… also, p.s., Funeral Parade of Roses is very underrated on here, even though it’s not particularly extreme.
