A New Chapter

The rain tapped gently against the hospital windows as the early morning sky remained gray. Inside the maternity ward, the room was quiet except for the rhythmic beeping of monitors.

Natsuki sat on the edge of the hospital bed, her hands resting over her very pregnant belly. She took a slow breath, trying to stay calm.

Adam Lanza sat beside her in a chair that had clearly seen better days. He had been awake almost the entire night, making sure she had everything she needed.

“You’ve been staring out that window for like ten minutes,” Adam Lanza said with a small smile.

“I’m thinking.”

“About what?”

Natsuki shrugged.

“…Everything.”

Adam Lanza nodded. He understood.

For months, they’d prepared for this day. They had painted the nursery together, argued over baby names, built a crib after spending two hours figuring out which screws went where, and laughed every time the baby kicked during dinner.

Now the day had finally arrived.

Suddenly, Natsuki winced.

“…Adam.”

He immediately stood.

“Another contraction?”

She nodded slowly.

“…Yeah.”

He pressed the call button for the nurse.

Within moments, the nurse entered the room and checked on Natsuki.

“It looks like things are progressing nicely,” she said warmly. “We’ll be moving you to the delivery room soon.”

Natsuki swallowed.

Even after months of preparing, hearing those words made everything feel real.

The Delivery Room

Bright lights filled the room.

Doctors and nurses calmly prepared everything while Adam stayed close to Natsuki’s side.

“You still okay?” he asked.

She squeezed his hand.

“I don’t know if okay is the right word.”

He laughed nervously.

“Fair.”

Hours passed.

The contractions became stronger.

Each time one came, Adam reminded her to breathe just like they’d practiced during their classes.

“In…”

She inhaled.

“…and out.”

She exhaled slowly.

“You got this.”

At one point she looked at him with exhausted eyes.

“If you ever suggest having another kid today…”

He immediately raised both hands.

“I will not.”

“…Good.”

Despite everything, they both laughed.

The doctors encouraged her through every stage.

“You’re doing great.”

“Almost there.”

“One more push.”

Natsuki gathered every bit of strength she had left.

Then—

A tiny cry echoed throughout the room.

Everyone smiled.

“It’s a healthy baby boy.”

For a moment, everything else disappeared.

The doctors wrapped the newborn in a warm blanket before gently placing him into Natsuki’s arms.

She stared at him silently.

His tiny nose.

His little fingers.

His sleepy eyes barely opening.

“…Hi.”

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

The baby wrapped his hand around one of her fingers.

Tears immediately filled her eyes.

Adam looked over her shoulder.

“…He’s beautiful.”

Neither of them said anything for several seconds.

They simply admired him.

Choosing the Name

Later that afternoon, after everyone had settled down, Adam pulled his chair closer to the bed.

“So…”

Natsuki looked up.

“We finally have to make it official.”

She smiled.

“We already agreed.”

“I know.”

He looked at their son.

“Ethan.”

Natsuki nodded.

“Ethan.”

The nurse wrote the name on the birth certificate paperwork.

“There we go,” she said.

“Welcome to the world, Ethan.”

First Visitors

News spread quickly.

By evening, friends and family began arriving one by one.

The room filled with flowers, balloons, tiny stuffed animals, and far more baby clothes than Ethan would ever wear in his first month.

Everyone wanted to hold him.

Everyone commented on how tiny he was.

“I think he has your eyes,” one visitor said.

“No, definitely Adam’s.”

“I think he has both.”

Natsuki smiled as the friendly debate continued.

Adam leaned over.

“They’re going to argue about this for years.”

“I know.”

The First Night

Eventually the visitors left.

The hospital became quiet again.

The lights were dimmed.

Outside, the rain had finally stopped.

Adam sat beside the bed, watching Ethan sleep in the small bassinet.

“It’s kind of amazing.”

“What is?”

“A few hours ago… he didn’t even exist in the world.”

Natsuki looked over.

“Now he’s here.”

She smiled.

“And somehow we’re responsible for him.”

Adam laughed quietly.

“That part’s a little terrifying.”

“Yeah.”

“But also…”

He looked at Ethan again.

“…worth it.”

Natsuki reached over and took Adam’s hand.

“We’ll figure it out.”

“Together.”

“Together.”

Heading Home

Two days later, it was finally time to leave.

Adam carefully carried Ethan’s car seat while Natsuki walked beside him.

The summer sun felt warm after spending days indoors.

As they reached the car, Adam lanza stopped.

“You ready?”

Natsuki looked at their son sleeping peacefully.

“No.”

Adam blinked.

“No?”

She smiled.

“…But I don’t think anyone ever really is.”

He chuckled.

“Fair enough.”

He opened the passenger door for her.

As they drove home, the nursery that had once been empty was finally waiting for its newest resident.

Life would bring sleepless nights, countless diaper changes, and plenty of unexpected challenges.

But it would also bring first smiles, first words, first steps, birthdays, bedtime stories, and memories that would last a lifetime.

Whatever came next, Natsuki and Adam would face it together—with Ethan at the heart of their growing family. A New Chapter… Shattered

The hospital room was peaceful.

Ethan slept quietly in his bassinet while Natsuki rested against the pillows. Adam sat beside her, gently rocking the chair as he watched their newborn son.

For a brief moment, everything felt perfect.

Then—

BANG!

The hospital door slammed open so hard it hit the wall.

Everyone in the room jumped.

Standing in the doorway was a man in a soaked black jacket, breathing heavily.

“Arthur Alcheiter?” Natsuki whispered.

Arthur Alchiters eyes darted around the room before settling on the baby… then on Adam standing beside Natsuki.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Finally, Arthur Alchieter broke the silence.

“…Tell me I’m wrong.”

Natsuki looked away.

“…Arthur Alcheiter…”

His voice shook.

“Tell me.”

Adam stepped forward.

“Maybe we should—”

“Don’t.”

Arthur’s eyes never left Natsuki.

“…Please.”

Tears formed in her eyes.

“I’m sorry.”

The room felt impossibly still.

Arthur Alcheiter staggered back a step as if the words themselves had knocked the air out of him.

“…No.”

Another step.

“No… no, that’s not…”

He laughed once—a short, disbelieving laugh.

“…This is some kind of joke.”

Nobody answered.

His expression slowly shifted from confusion to heartbreak.

“I was picking out a crib.”

His voice cracked.

“I painted a room.”

He looked toward the baby.

“I thought…”

He couldn’t finish the sentence.

The realization hit him all at once.

Adam quietly lowered his head.

Natsuki wiped away tears.

“I’m sorry.”

Arthur Alcheiter covered his face with both hands.

For several moments, the room was silent except for Ethan’s quiet breathing.

Then Arthur Alcheiter let out a long, shaky breath.

“I don’t even know who I am anymore.”

A nurse, hearing the raised voices, stepped into the doorway.

“Is everything okay in here?”

No one answered immediately.

Arthur slowly lowered his hands.

His face showed exhaustion more than anger now.

“I need to leave.”

He turned toward the door, paused, and looked back one last time.

“I hope… whatever happens next… that little boy grows up surrounded by people who truly care about him.”

Without another word, he walked out.

The door clicked shut.

The room remained silent.

Adam sat back down, looking shaken.

Natsuki stared at the floor, knowing that no apology could erase what had happened.

Outside the hospital, Arthur stood beneath the gray sky.

He took several deep breaths, trying to steady himself. The emotions were overwhelming, and he knew he couldn’t process them alone. After a moment, he called a close friend and asked them to come meet him.

Back inside, the room remained quiet.

No one felt like they had won.

No one felt like celebrating.

The birth of a child had been a joyful moment—but the truth that followed had changed all three of their lives forever.

Sometimes, a single revelation can alter the course of many futures. What came next would depend on whether each of them could face the consequences of their choices and decide how to move forward.
