How would one deal with a wider deep cut? like three inches long? Besides of course bandaging it and ointments. Are there any specific steps one should take so it doesn’t become infected.
Cauterize it.

However, you should monitor any wound for signs that an infection is spreading or worsening:Increasing redness, swelling, or warmth around the cut that spreads outward. Worsening pain or tenderness that increases after a few days rather than fading.Pus or cloudy, foul-smelling drainage coming from the wound. Fever and chills. Signs of Sepsis (Medical Emergency) If a localized infection progresses toward sepsis, symptoms become systemic. IRL I was making something with a stanley knife. The knife slipped and sliced open the thump on my other hand. Lots of blood everywhere so I put in under a tap and wrapped it in tissue. 30 minutes later I checked and the wound opened up again. It was a friday evening so it stayed wrapped until Monday. Wow 3 inches is long when I used to cut I never did that much I instead went for depth and I never bandaged anything got no infections
This is a very hobo way of self caring but rinse it with sanitised water this will hurt like fuck but prevents infection big time seal it shut with multiple bandaids rinse and repeat until your skin heals and it’s naturally sealed also good idea to keep that part of your body wrapped with bandages or something so it’s protected somewhat
I use to go deep on my thighs a lot and this usually worked but its incredibly annoying to deal with
I wanna say kid , don’t cut it’s addictive, but answering ur question:
So if u can only see the skin first and second layer (no fat/muscle ) u don’t need stitches, just a antibiotic cream that would work as the ointment(uciderm par exemple), use strong pharastrips put it on one edge then pull and put on the other edge so the wound closes effectively and change it every 12h doing the same shit. But if it’s too deep as I said go to a pharmacy and ask for stitches then stitche urself at home but it would hurt a bit lol. Or get it medically assessed (but be ready for questions lol).
Also if whatever u used is metal, check when did u last take the vaccine of (forgot the name), if it’s more then 5 years go get it. You might die if you don’t haha(ur bodie’s memory is not the coolest lol).
And the obvious ofc is to clean the wound before and after anything.
