It all starts with a neglected child. This child grows up on their own. Often, they are either a bully or a victim. It doesn’t matter really, but today, let’s focus on a bully.

A bully usually has a boring, abusive life at home. In more rare cases, they might choose to become bullies by following the path of someone they admire. One of their parents must have traumatized them at least once, with a really bad, fucked-up trauma that eventually affects the child’s mind and pushes them out of sanity, distorting their way of viewing life as any normal child would and causing them to interpret certain acts differently.

A kid’s brain is still under development, so it can become wired differently depending on their experiences. Usually, in these cases, genetics also plays a fucking big role in how someone’s brain is inclined to react to an abusive environment. At the same time, a sufficiently abusive environment can contribute to mental illness or even awaken a hidden but inactive disorder. However, this also requires a good amount of time, repeated thinking about their situation, and perhaps a bit of early maturity. These factors determine how the child interprets what is happening to them.

A good example would be to take three children who are all tied up and beaten for failing to clean their rooms. One might think, “It hurts to get slapped, so I’ll avoid doing it again.” Another might also get hurt but become angry because someone hurt them for no reason. A third might start thinking, “Why was my parent angry about this? Is it okay for them to do this simply because, by some chance, they have the authority?” (me :).

The three of them would become traumatized if they were hit again and again and again. Yet, if they became bullies, each one could develop a completely different way of bullying. The first would clash with everyone who goes against the rules because they did not obey them, and they would dare to punish those people themselves. The second would be the type of person who hates anyone who follows stupid, asserted, unnecessary rules, becoming somewhat rebellious. The third would use any opportunity to annoy and bully someone with less power than them because they were given the chance to do so. At the same time, they would happily listen to those with more power in order to earn their favor and eventually use that power for their own benefit.

All three are bullies, but they are all wired differently.

These bullies usually grow like an f(x) = x² function. The more power you give them, the more they thrive. However, certain rules can keep them in line, depending on how much they neglect consequences, as well as their IQ, EQ, and goals. Because of these limitations, the function becomes more like f(x) = √x.
