For a while, I was a high school teacher. I had around 120 students, between 16 and 18 years old. As the engineering enthusiast I am, I taught specialized subjects like magnetism, electric motors, and power generation.
When I started, I found the school to be in bad shape. But that wasn’t a problem; I had tons of teaching materials and tools from my workshop, so there was no excuse for the class to be boring.
I remember teaching my students how to make a homemade generator with bicycle parts and old engines, and a gas cannon to launch potatoes. We calculated the pressure (psi) and the angle of inclination to see how far it would go. Unfortunately, my efforts weren’t very fruitful. More than 70% of the students weren’t interested in the subjects. They did their reports using AI, their handwritten assignments were unpresentable, with bad spelling and handwriting, or they simply didn’t come to class.
As time went on, my patience wore thin. I started having problems due to stress; nothing I did mattered to them.
In one class, I used binary numbers and multiplication by zero.
They made something so basic so complex. I couldn’t do it; it was like rowing against the waves.
Presentations without materials, or without them even knowing what they were presenting.
I had the brilliant idea of doing an activity: having them write a report imagining where they see themselves in 10 years. Most didn’t even write anything or simply didn’t turn in the assignment. Others just listed jobs like:
hairdresser,
housewife, going to work in the US.
This generation is supposed to be the future of the world.
It seems the world is going to hell.
These are the future technicians, doctors, accountants, specialists.
Fortunately, technology won’t replace our jobs, but it is making us less capable of performing even the simplest tasks. We’re suffering from attention deficit; our interest has shrunk to a four-inch screen.
Today, one of those students came to my office. He remembered I had a workshop and decided to apply for a specialized position. I wasn’t mean; I gave him the opportunity for an interview. He performed terribly. A mini-test on fractions was too much for him. Watching him try to enter the fraction into his phone… In the end, I failed the test when I saw he was using AI to solve the calculations. I told him, on his own merits, that we couldn’t continue the interview since he clearly wasn’t capable of doing a mental calculation.
Back at my chair, I start thinking, and I’m terrified of what the future holds.
But the way things are going, maybe I won’t be alive when the future of idiots is in control of the world.

I think it’s a bit ur fault honestly, as mom is a teacher and she encountered the same shit so she simply looked a bit into it , started applying to teach in pioneer schools, got accepted for her brilliant mind in teaching and despite always of finding some problems she is enjoying her job and the students. When her students see me they be like ur the most lucky kid in the world , though what they missed is that mom never taught me anything and i’m so lacking at what she teaches till this day lol.
Sorry shifted away a bit but the moral of the story most are dump in any generation, the handful of the smart asses usually look for people like them so simply find their community. And no the future is not fucked lol. I used to study in pioneering schools and the very top uni and ik our generation has as much luck and success.
Plus if everyone was good, it’s not logical. Cause everyone would have good titles and jobs . So who is doing the scut work lol. Dad used to say that a lot. Ik it’s selfish, unhuman but the reality is that those guys most of the time CHOSE to be there, sure not all but most. Btw dad was among those with no much luck tho he fucking built his life out of being a smartass and got where he got.
As a 16-18 year old I’m gonna sound arrogant but people around my age are genuinely so insufferable I cannot stand hanging around with them, I’m not even autistic I have decent social skills and all but hanging out with anyone my age makes me feel like I’m losing a braincell every second I spend with them. That said anyone of any age can be dumb/insufferable as fuck. I think most people stay dumb their whole lives, but some dumb people gain a tiny amount of wisdom at 60+, in their final days which is pretty sad when you think about it. Idc if I sound arrogant or whatever, I don’t think I’m super smart but it’s hard not feel a little superior around people so dumb. It makes me a little depressed at times tho to be honest. I know 40+ year olds that have masters degrees and such, but still somehow are dumb in every other aspect. I don’t know if studies are done on this topic but it’s so odd to me that someone with a masters degrees in something like computer science can genuinely be so naive, dumb, or stupid in every other aspect of life. I’m not saying I’m better, in fact I’m just as lazy as the rest of you, if not more, I don’t really have much hope for the future because people are just so insufferable, why would I wanna study hard and spend hours everyday learning something I don’t even wanna… Read more »
I was with some millenial relatives recently and their knowledge of the world was zero. I sat wondering how did they all get university degrees when I could not even get decent GCSE results. However its their future not mine so let them have it how they want it.
Eh. I was homeskooled for most of my teens. I did go to public skool but to be honest most of what they taught us was utter bullshit. The skool later on had reports of a teacher being fired for being a pedo, and in my elementary there was apparently shit smeared all over the walls.
Homeskooling is almost certified to make your kid a little weird, but I enjoyed it.
Also why is a high skool teacher on here? Lol
