This a bit of a story from when I was about 8 years old.
I was with my family on our way home from church, this is the same exact church my family still attends that I usually go to. I don’t really consider myself part of the religion but I still go with.
Anyways on our way home there was some people and I could hear ambulance sirens in the distance, my dad ended up stopping and getting out of the car. I remember my older siblings peeking out the window. Less than a minute later dad came back and told us to get out of the car so we can pray for help.
Well, I get out and in the ditch there’s a guy that got into a motorcycle accident. I remember seeing part of his right leg opened, the flesh was barely hanging on. His jaw was fucked and he was asking for a cigarette. The ambulance eventually pulls up but it seems like an eternity although Im sure it was much shorter than in my mind at the time.
So we prayed for the guy, my whole family. We said a prayer out loud, well it was really just my dad who was speaking and the rest of us were crossing our arms. Then we left.
I’m not sure if this event affected me, my oldest sibling seems to be perfectly normal while the middle one is a bit strange but that could’ve just been something completely separate.
Its important I mention I ended up searching for more material like this later on after the event because I was “curious” so I really just ended up doing the rest to myself.
I still wonder if maybe I would have been different if this hadn’t happened in the first place.
Maybe the first fucked thing in my life was finding out about death from an atheist parent. Made me rather carefree about harming living things. The first time I saw violence was in an accident, too, but it didn’t have as much of an impact. Perhaps the ceremony in the way your family responded to the carnage made your experience more consequential . . .
Pray for help, lol. What had happened to his jaw?
